Promise Community Health Center took the next step in comprehensive, holistic care with the addition of on-site vision/eye care in April 2015. Eye care is critical to the wellbeing of everyone, whether that be students who need to see the board in school, diabetics dealing with deteriorating eye problems, or people with glaucoma, macular degeneration or other eye conditions.
Partnership with Beaver Eye Care
Promise Community Health Center recognized that many people in the community were not having their eye care needs met because of financial cost, language or some other barrier, so partnerships have been formed with area eye clinics to address that need. Promise also received a grant from the U.S. Health Resources Administration's Health Center Expanded Services program to launch the program.
Dr. Dan Clousing, an optometrist for Beaver Eye Care of Sioux Center, takes appointments 8 a.m.-noon Wednesdays at Promise.
During their weekly visits, they provide routine eye care, medical eye care for patients with various eye conditions and vision screenings for school-age children. A bilingual optometry assistant inteprets for Spanish-speaking patients and assists the optomostrists.
Along with eye exams, Promise has a selection of reasonably priced eyeglass frames to offer patients who need them.
